Liposuction is a common, versatile cosmetic surgery that removes unwanted fat from a number of areas on the body. While traditional liposuction is the most invasive fat reduction technique, it produces the most dramatic, longest-lasting results. Liposuction alone can reshape the body for beautiful results; however, many men and women often combine it with other procedures at Y Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery for life-changing transformations. Performed by our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif, the patient will be under general anesthesia and in an outpatient setting. Liposuction combined with skin removal and tightening is a more invasive way to change the patient’s body but may be necessary to obtain the best outcome in aesthetics. At our office in Woodstock or Roswell, GA, we offer several options for patients desiring liposuction.
Age generally does not play a factor in restricting a patient from liposuction. If the patient’s skin has good elasticity, then it should take the procedure rather well. During a private consultation at our practice, we can discuss if liposuction is right for you. Men and women who show the following signs may be great candidates:
- Have stubborn fat in the areas of the face, neck, breasts, stomach, hips, lower back, thighs, arms, ankles, and chest
- Have less than 10 pounds of fat to be removed in the area of concern
- Have good skin elasticity
- Are in overall good health

"Dr. Y and his staff are incredible. First class from initial meeting to my final release appointment. I’ve worked for a Plastic Surgeon, and have gone to several in the Atlanta area. Dr. Yalef by far surpasses them all, hands down. Dr. Yalef bedside manner, compassion are the best in Atlanta. Dr. Yalef’s Team are equally skilled in their professionalism, ease of their care & compassion for you. Dr. Y thank you from the bottom of my heart for my new look! Love you and your Team!!!????"- K.E. / Facebook / Oct 16, 2017
"Dr Yalif and his staff are A+ in my book. From the very first visit (May 2017) until now (October 2017) they all were professional, attentive, caring, truthful, and accommodating. He did a wonderful job on my necklift. And continues to care for me during the healing process. Before you decide on a plastic surgeon, you owe it to yourself to consult with Dr. Yalif."- S.W. / Google / Oct 16, 2017
"I was very scared to my appointment... crying to my husband scared, my injury is very tender and painful. Dr. Y has such great bedside manner, he was gentle and handled my hand injury with care....his staff were so kind, they even held my baby. I would highly recommend him. I am not scared of my next appointment, at all."- W.D. / Facebook / Oct 12, 2017
"I have been seeing Dr. Y for several years now and am always pleased with my results. Since beginning treatments with Dr. Y I have moved to the Nashville area but still commute to the Alpharetta location for my regular appointments because Dr. Y has given me honest input on what I need and is light-handed in his approach. I look forward to getting my mommy-makeover done here as well."- D.T. / Google / Oct 09, 2017
Types of Liposuction
- Laser and Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
These 2 techniques use a high-frequency ultrasound or laser technology to dissolve fat before the surgeon makes the incision to suck out the fat. The goal of laser or ultrasound assisted liposuction is to make the fat easier to remove, especially on denser areas of fat on the body (thighs, back, and stomach). Both of these methods are also less invasive and offer a shorter recovery period.
- Tumescent "Super-Wet" Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction is a suction-assisted liposuction technique that uses a solution (saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine), and a powered motor to help eliminate dense fat. At a controlled speed, our plastic surgeon can remove several pounds of fat with this device. This is the traditional, gold standard approach to surgical fat removal. It offers effective, lasting results, but does have a longer recovery and is more invasive.
What to Expect
Liposuction is performed in an accredited surgical center or at a local hospital as an outpatient procedure. The surgery generally takes between 1 – 2 hours to complete, depending on how much fat is being addressed, as well as how many body parts. Liposuction can be a surgery all on its own; however, it is usually paired with other surgeries for the best cosmetic results, such as skin tightening procedures. It takes a couple of weeks for patients to recover and scarring is minimal. If a well-balanced diet is maintained, along with a healthy lifestyle, the results following liposuction surgery can last years.
