About Lower Body Lift Surgery

As one of the most complex combination of plastic surgeries available today, lower body lift surgery modifies several areas of the lower body at one time. This surgery is performed by our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif, for men and women who need the skin on the abdomen, lower back, buttocks, hips, and thighs removed after losing 100 pounds or more. Weight loss leaves the skin loose and hanging, creating a deformity that can only be addressed with surgery.

A highly-skilled plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Yalif, can remove and “lift” the remaining skin back into position. Also known as a Body Lift 360°, a lower body lift has become very popular with the rise in the number of successful weight loss surgeries. Our practices in Woodstock and Roswell, GA can provide these surgeries in one session, or they can be staged and spread out over several months. This can all be discussed at the consultation as we work with you to complete your transformation.

Ideal Candidates

Men and women with a significant amount of loose skin on their abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and hips are ideal candidates for this surgery. It is important that the weight loss has been stabilized and that a proper physical is completed to ensure the patient is healthy enough to undergo this procedure. Others who would benefit from the lower body lift are:

  • Women who have given birth and have lost the firmness in their skin
  • Men and women of advanced age who would like to reverse the damage of aging and hanging skin
  • Men and women of overall good health and can have surgery under anesthesia

What to Expect

Skin removal procedures are very involved and will require several incisions on the torso, buttocks, and thighs. The skin will be removed and then sutured into a higher position. Some patients may require liposuction in some areas if there are additional pockets of isolated fat to address. In addition, it is common to complete the look with a fat transfer, which involves taking fat from another part of the body to help add volume to the buttocks for a curvier, normal appearance. A lower body lift can be done in one setting. However, it may be in the patient’s best interest to separate the various components of the procedure as this is a 5 – 8-hour surgical journey and involves slow healing during recovery that can take up to a year.

Anticipated Results

While for the majority of our weight loss patients, a lower body lift can result in outstanding outcomes, it is important to understand that scarring is a part of this surgery. Unfortunately, when skin removal of this nature occurs, scarring is often unavoidable. However, you can trust that our plastic surgeon will make sure the scars can be concealed with clothing and are made as thin as possible so they heal nicely and properly. Most of our patients feel the results from this surgery outweigh the scars. Patients are lighter, can wear tighter-fitting clothes, and they do not have to worry about hiding their loose skin. This surgery creates a tighter appearance, a more toned look, and a more youthful contour. It takes the average patient about 6 – 9 months to recover from this surgery.

If you are at a point in your life where the extra skin on your lower body is interfering with your self-confidence or decreasing your range of motion or mobility, you should contact our plastic surgery office for a consultation. Patients considering investing in these procedures need to be at goal weight and have their health stable. Also, women of childbearing age need to consider that another pregnancy will damage the skin again with the fluctuation of weight.
