About Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Ear surgery (also called otoplasty or ear pinning) can address a number of ear issues, such as ears that stick out too much, are misaligned, or are misshapen. At Y Plastic Surgery, prominent ears that are too large and disproportionate for the face can be successfully reshaped and repaired. With otoplasty, double-board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Asaf Yalif can not only improve the ears’ cosmetic appearance, but also alleviate feelings of anxiety, restore confidence, and improve self-image for adults and children as young as five or six.
The best candidates for ear reconstruction surgery:
- Have prominent, sticking out, misaligned, misshapen, or disproportionate ears
- Are adults or children as young as five or six who wish to correct abnormalities
- Have anxiety about the look of their ears
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look

"Dr. Y and his staff are incredible. First class from initial meeting to my final release appointment. I’ve worked for a Plastic Surgeon, and have gone to several in the Atlanta area. Dr. Yalef by far surpasses them all, hands down. Dr. Yalef bedside manner, compassion are the best in Atlanta. "Dr Yalif and his staff are A+ in my book. From the very first visit (May 2017) until now (October 2017) they all were professional, attentive, caring, truthful, and accommodating. He did a wonderful job on my necklift. And continues to care for me during the healing process. Before you decide on a plastic surgeon, you owe it to yourself to consult with Dr. Yalif."- S.W. / Google / Oct 16, 2017
"I was very scared to my appointment... crying to my husband scared, my injury is very tender and painful. Dr. Y has such great bedside manner, he was gentle and handled my hand injury with care....his staff were so kind, they even held my baby. I would highly recommend him. I am not scared of my next appointment, at all."- W.D. / Facebook / Oct 12, 2017
"I have been seeing Dr. Y for several years now and am always pleased with my results. Since beginning treatments with Dr. Y I have moved to the Nashville area but still commute to the Alpharetta location for my regular appointments because Dr. Y has given me honest input on what I need and is light-handed in his approach. I look forward to getting my mommy-makeover done here as well."- D.T. / Google / Oct 09, 2017
What to Expect
During this outpatient surgery, the patient will be under either general anesthesia or a lighter sedation known as “twilight” anesthesia, and an incision will be made in the folds of the ear. Dr. Yalif will be able to manipulate the cartilage and skin, reshaping the ear. For overly large ears, the extraneous cartilage and skin can be removed. If the ears are misaligned, he will stitch the ears evenly and in the most appropriate position. After surgery, the incisions will be sutured closed. Since the incisions are made in the natural creases of the ear, there will be no visible scarring. The surgery typically takes around two hours to complete.
Following ear surgery, the ears will be dressed to provide protection. The dressing will remain in place for around five days for children, and two days for adults. There’s little pain or discomfort associated with otoplasty, but patients can expect some tenderness and swelling. It’s crucial that pediatric patients not touch or bother their ears while they are healing. Results are long-term and will provide years of positive benefits for patients.
