About Augmentation Surgery

With the many different sizes, textures, and implant options to choose from when considering augmentation surgery, making a decision about which treatment to opt for can be overwhelming. One of the most common plastic surgeries for women, breast augmentation increases self-esteem and gives beautiful body balance. At Y Plastic Surgery, our double-board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif, is experienced in giving women balanced, beautiful results.

Breast augmentation surgery involves inserting a silicone or saline implant (some women also choose to use their own body fat in a process called fat transfer) to make the size of the breasts bigger. At your first private consultation at one of our conveniently located offices in Alpharetta, Woodstock, or Roswell, GA, we will discuss which type of implant and incision technique is right for you, providing you with a personalized treatment plan to give you the best results.

Ideal Candidates

Patients who desire to have breast augmentation surgery may be ideal candidates if they meet the following criteria:

  • Are unhappy with the current size and shape of the breasts
  • Have lost firmness in the breast due to weight loss, or after child bearing
  • Have differently sized breasts
  • Have breasts disproportionate in size to the rest of the body
  • Have undergone mastectomy or lumpectomy and desire to restore the shape of the breasts

What to Expect

Before you have breast augmentation surgery, you will have a complete physical examination. Overall good health is necessary for a successful result. When deciding which type of implant to use, keep in mind that age can be a determining factor.

Saline Implants

  • Filled with sterile water
  • Available in a round shape
  • Less expensive than silicone-filled implants

Silicone Implants

  • Available in both round and teardrop (more anatomically correct – thinner at the top with more volume at the base) shapes
  • Feels more like breast tissue to the touch

Gummy Bear Implants

  • A type of silicone implant with a thicker gel-like consistency

Fat Transfer

  • Takes fat from one part of the body and injects it into another
  • Produces natural results with a relatively small increase in breast size

One of the distinct differences between saline and silicone breast implants is the age restriction – patients must be at least 18 years in order to receive saline implants, and at least 21 for silicone. Existing native breast tissue, breast shape, and skin elasticity are other factors that are taken into consideration. Measurements will be taken of the breasts, as well as the chest wall, including base width, to help determine the best implant type. This evaluation will help develop the best breast augmentation plan.

Anticipated Results

After surgery, patients can expect to feel sore; however, we can help with pain management and education on proper incision care techniques. Each augmentation patient will be discharged knowing how to dress the incisions and will leave in a sports bra and surgical dressing. There will be some bruising and swelling for about one to two weeks, and it is recommended that patients take it easy for those two weeks to heal and rebuild tissue post-surgery. Most patients experience a full recovery between six and eight weeks. Most women find their breasts look and feel totally natural within just a few short months.
