About Augmentation Surgery

With the many different sizes, textures, and implant options to choose from when considering augmentation surgery, there is a lot of information to gather to make the best choice. Our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif, provides this enhancement surgery to women who desire beautiful body balance and shapelier breasts. It is one of the most common plastic surgeries for women, and continues to increase self-esteem along with a curvier bust line.

Breast augmentation surgery involves inserting a silicone or saline implant (some women also choose to use their own body fat called a fat transfer) to make the size of the breasts bigger. At your first private consultation at our Alpharetta, Woodstock or Roswell, GA office, we will discuss which type of implant and incision technique is right for you, and provide you with a personalized treatment plan at Y Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery.

Ideal Candidates

Patients who desire to have breast augmentation surgery may be ideal candidates if they meet the following criteria:

  • You are unhappy with the current size and shape of your breasts.
  • You have lost the firmness of your breast because of weight loss, or after child bearing.
  • One breast is larger than the other.
  • The size of the breasts are not in proportion to the rest of the body.
  • You have undergone a mastectomy or lumpectomy and desire to restore the shape of the breasts.

What to Expect

Before you have breast augmentation surgery, you will have a complete physical examination. Overall good health is necessary for a successful result. When deciding which type of implant to use, keep in mind that age can be a determining factor. One of the distinct differences between saline and silicone breast implants is the age restriction. Patients must be 18 years or older in order to receive saline implants, and at least 21 for silicone. Existing native breast tissue, breast shape, and skin elasticity are other factors to take into consideration. Measurements will be taken of the breasts, as well as the chest wall, including base width, to help determine the best implant type. This evaluation will help to develop the best breast augmentation plan.

Anticipated Results

After surgery, patients can expect to feel sore; however, we can help with pain management and education on proper incision care techniques. Each augmentation patient will be discharged knowing how to dress the incisions and will leave in a sports bra and surgical dressing. There will be some bruising and swelling for about 1 – 2 weeks. It is recommended for patients to take it easy for those 2 weeks to heal and rebuild tissue after surgery. Most patients experience a full recovery between 6 – 8 weeks. Most women find that their breasts look and feel totally natural within just a few short months.
