Transforming Scars
Scar Revision surgery by our triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif, greatly diminishes the appearance of scars and elevates confidence. Scars can come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and forms all over the body. When they are on the face, scars can be especially noticeable and can decrease confidence and increase anxiety.
Regardless of how a scar occurred or where it is, Dr. Yalif uses all of the tools at his disposal to transform the appearance of the unattractive tissue, and he commonly uses the surgery to help patients who have scars as a result of trauma, accident, previous surgery, cancer, or more. Not only is scar revision surgery used to make a scar more cosmetically appealing, but it can also help alleviate pain and restore function where nerve damage has occurred and/or sensation has been lost.
A scar is often a reminder of a traumatic accident or incident that caused it, so it’s critically important for many patients to diminish its appearance. At Y Plastic Surgery, we can discuss all the options for Scar Revision Surgery at a private consultation at either of our offices in Alpharetta or Atlanta, GA.

Tailored Solutions
Various types of scars call for different techniques during Scar Revision Surgery. When scars arise from a problem with a previous surgery, the original incision can be re-opened and the skin can be moved around to minimize the appearance of the scar. In some cases, the scar can be moved to a different location to make it less visible.
With raised scars, dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing procedures can be used to remove the upper layers of skin to make the scar smoother and more even with the rest of the area. Keloid scars, which are raised, can be surgically removed to improve the appearance. Depending on the type of scar and its condition, the plastic surgeon will use general or local anesthesia. The surgery is considered outpatient, so our Atlanta Scar Revision patients can return home the same day.
Recovery & Results
After Scar Revision surgery, pain, discomfort, redness, swelling, and bruising can be expected. Stitches are usually removed in the few days following surgery.
Strenuous exercise and activities will need to be avoided for the first week or so. In addition, patients should keep the head elevated while sleeping. There will be multiple follow-up appointments so the surgeon can ensure the treatment site is healing properly. It can take up to a full year or more for the scar to fully heal and for the patient to notice full results.

Whether it is a facelift or a tummy tuck, we will want to maximize our results. Dr. Yalif knows that the best way to help your body through the surgery journey is with adjunctive skincare regimens. These recommendations will help maintain your results longer, refine scars, and achieve your desired aesthetic!
For face procedures, we recommend a pre-op retinoid, usually from the Environ line. Their multi-level retinoid system allows the escalation of the retinoid’s effect, usually without all the drying and itchiness usually associated with these types of products. Post-operatively, we recommend a combination of therapies aimed at keeping your skin youthful while allowing your incisions to fully heal with excellent support, essentially maintaining your results and improving the quality of your skin over time. These include Environ’s Skin Essentia line for both cleansing and moisturizing, followed by the Vita-peptide C-quence serum 2 – containing vitamins A, C, and E, along with hydrating and toning elements for your skin. We add the super moisturizer at night and the ISDIN SPF during the day to complete the recovery of your skin and enhance your results for years.
If you’ve had an eye procedure or just want a good recommendation for an eye cream, Dr. Y recommends the Environ Vita-peptide gel. It will help with puffiness, fine lines, crow’s feet, and more. Essentially it is an excellent product on its own and will augment any result you get if Dr. Y is doing a periorbital procedure too.
And don’t think we neglect your body! In addition to the recommendations above, we highly recommend The Derma-Lac lotion postoperatively to help exfoliate your skin and soften smooth and moisturize the treated areas to improve overall skin health. We also will add vitamin A, C, and E body oil to help the appearance of stretch marks, scarring, pigmentation, and dry skin. Our experts are happy to answer questions and make additional recommendations based on your particular needs.
